Fiber Optic Taper is Rigid Fiber Image Transmission Components, like Fiber Optic Plate, it transmits the image by millions of Fiber filament fused together. Besides, it also provides the features of magnification or minify of image.
Fiber Optic Tape has the magnification ratio equals to the big end diameter / small end diameter. Normally, the magnification ratio can go to 5:1. In some condition, it can be maximized to 10:1. Currently, Fiber optic taper’s diameter can be ranged from 10– mm ~ 150+mm
a) Spot Blemish and Line Blemish
Spot blemish are small area where transmission is lower than average. Spot blemishes are caused by contamination during fiber drawing.
Line blemish is also caused by contamination during manufacturing process. It could be seen as a pattern contain several dark fibers in a line.

b) Shear Distortion and Gross Distortion
Shear distortion is the displacement or rotation of a small line. Its due to the twist or movement of multi-fibers.
Gross distortion is caused by gross movement of one region of the surface.
c) Barrel Distrotion
Barrel distortion is the result of bad control of operation temperature when stretching the fiber optic into taper shape.

d) Thermal Expansion
Expansion is one of the most critical quality factor of Fiber Optic Components. Fiber Optic components are made of two or more glasses material (core and cladding). Whose coefficients expansion index are often different. The material used for producing fiber optic taper or faceplate should be the material with very similar coefficients expansion index.
When coupling one component to another, coefficient of expansion is also an important factor.
e) Chemical Stability
This parameter could be categorized into 2 class.
Class 1 will not discolor when heated in a strong reducing atmosphere.
Class 2 will discolor slowly in a strong reducing atmosphere.
