This article examines the impact of fiber end face diameter, coupler waist core arrangement, and output fiber end angle on the return loss of high-power fiber couplers used with high-power semiconductor lasers for beam combining in fiber amplifiers. The study found that larger fiber core diameter ratios correlate with higher back light power and lower return loss, compact waist core arrangements with higher refractive index reduce return loss, and cutting the output fiber end at an 8° angle improves output coupling efficiency and reduces return loss, which is crucial for suppressing laser oscillation in high-power fiber amplifiers. The research aims to provide insights for improving the quality and performance of high-power fiber amplifiers.
