Summary

A fast, high-spatial-resolution detector for high-energy microscopy work is presented that uses a CMOS imager rather than a CCD for advantages in readout speed and electronic shuttering. The prototype detector uses a Terbium-doped fiber optic plate as the scintillator, decoupling the scintillator thickness from the resolution and allowing for high stopping power even at high energies. The detector has a field of view of 7mm x 8.6 mm with a resolution of 9 microns and a sensitivity of 1 e-/x-ray at 35 keV with a read noise of 2.5 e-/pixel.
